Review

If you are in the brewing industry or merely have a serious interest in beer and beer news this publication is right up your alley. Every issue is packed full of news releases, new beer launches, brewery sales, brewery openings, related political info, distibution facts, statistics, beer festivals, awards and the like.

Rating:

Content - 5
Organized into major news items, minor news items and event news, items are easy to find and the content is quite good. Where applicable the newsletter will present full news release copy. The list of beer events is excellent, and is as comprehensive a list as I've ever seen. The information presented is definitely of high quality.

Writing Quality/Style - 5
Concise and clear, mixing hard facts and related interesting tidbits while maintaining readability and interest level.

Regularity - 5
Issues show up every Monday morning. Nice to read over your morning beer... I mean Coke... ah yes, as the old industry adage goes: "Beer. It's not just for breakfast anymore"

Extras - 4.5
Since this publication is not free, the subscription process is more involved than typical newsletters. The form on the BEERWeek Web site quickly walks you through the subscription process and allows you to pay on-line with your credit card or with a cheque via snail mail. (Not a biggy , but it would be nice to have a secure page for the credit card order form). Nicely, you can receive sample issues from the site, so you know what you get before you buy.

Overall - 5
Well I'm probably biased as I also review beers, breweries and pubs, so I regularly appreciate the info that BEERWeek feeds me. As a publication example, I believe the BEERWeek format is the future of industry and academic journals; sent to you every week, full of more information than you could get out of two similar monthly print publications and a heck of lot less expensive. I'm not sure whether the BEERWeek crew currently covers all their costs (I'm hoping), but I'm willing to bet they'll be doing quite well in the future. An excellent bet if you're infatuated with beer...

Summary

RBPmail summarizes the changes to the Real Beer Site and tons of recent beer and brewing related news. You will find that a number of the news items overlap with the info in BEERWeek but do not go into as much depth. As an interesting bonuses RBPMail covers and reviews beer related Web Sites, has a monthly e-mail based survey question, publishes industry financial highlights, and has an excellent editorial in every issue.. For a monthly look at beer news RBPMail is great and the price is pretty good as well.
