Marijka - Marijka Danielle Octavia Fraser Kuipers

And because one is just not enough we decided to let things roll. The need to keep the population growth at least at steady state, the need for grandparents to have more than one kid to brag about, and especially the need for in situ sibling rivalry caused us to throw caution to the wind. We've had another nice wee little person this recent equinox - namely a Marijka Danielle Octavia Fraser Kuipers.

Marijka is a sweet chubby little gal who showed up about 3 weeks early and is at this early date exceptionally content (except between 8 and 10 PM). Visiting hours are flexible so give us a ring if you'd like to huff a new baby.

The names? Marijka was selected by Todd's Beppe and is pronounced Mar-eye-kah, with the possibility of Rijka, Ika and Ike (though Beppe doesn't like this one - and Mary is right out) as nicknames. Danielle was chosen by Sue because she likes it, not purely to mollify Dan in being left out with Gus naming. Octavia is a nice wholesome classical name which coincidentally is also the family name of Augustus. Fraser again is a fairly obvious choice.

Gus - Augustus William Niklaas Fraser Kuipers

Because we are shallow folks, shameless followers of fads, prone to leaping astride any and all wagons with bands, we have decided to have a baby. Herein is the projected narcissistic shrine to Augustus William Niklaas Fraser, where we will detail his sleeping patterns, cute little grimaces, his oh-so-very stylish diaper shirts and, of course, the colouring of his poop.

Gus is just a swell little chap, fulla fun and pretty low maintenance all told. You're welcome to pop by anytime and visit, though if you're coming for Gus time, pre 7:30PM tends to be the best.

The names? Augustus was what we felt was our best choice for a name that gave us Gus and had some flexibility for future names (Augi, Aug, Gustus, August, Gusoline, Guster, etc.). William was suggested by Dan as a solid Dutch-Scottish cross-over name. Niklaas is a play on Todd's grandfather's name, Klaas - at one time people assumed that Klaas was short for Niklaas so they ended up calling him Nik (there is no connection to Sint Niklaas). The choice of Fraser is fairly obvious - as is Kuipers.
