Europe - Trip 1Day 3 - January 10, 2002Got up in the morning, had a leasuirely shower, packed a small bag and headed off to visit Sue's uncle (Tom) out near Maidenhead. Stopped off at Waterstone's in Piccadily, a huge bookstore of 5 stories and useful staff, and picked up a few books, including a couple for Todd's mother's cousin (Ite) who lives in the northern Netherlands. A quick stop at the pub in Paddington station for lunch and a couple pints and we hit the train to Taplow where Tom's "factory" is. After a short wait in the lot of an Alfa dealership, Tom whisked us home to his place where we got a full tour of the house and the bits in it. Dinner was homemade soup and some bread and light conversation. Sue later feigned tiredness while Todd was brought out to help Tom load up his car for a job up north near Kendal; stops in Taplow and near Heathrow. Tom is a world-renowned chemist who develops treatments, of low toxicity, for the preservation of the stone, concrete and wood. Todd learned quite a bit from Tom as he asked questions about his work and the area, though nodding off on the drive home wasn't very nice though I'm not positive Tom noticed. Sue seemed to enjoy the nap as she was still in it when Tom and Todd arrived home. no photos, sound or video today |
