Day 9 - January 16, 2002

Strolling along the
footpaths to Cartmel

This morning Todd was up at 7:30 and headed out of the house to get the lay of the land. Down the hill to the street with all the shops on it, the wares were surveyed and he picked up sausages from the butcher, a copy of The Times and a Net rag from the newsagent, freerange eggs and oranges from the grocer and a nice loaf of bread from the bakery. He then headed back and annoyed Sue so that she would get up.

Colourful plumbing in Grange

A fabulous breakfast, prepared lovingly by Sue, followed along with connecting to the Internet and answering of mail. After all the prep was done we headed out for a walk to Cartmel (2-3 miles) along ancient footpaths and not-so-ancient roads. Todd popped into the bookstore as Sue wandered out to take pictures of the town and the very very old Priory. After an extensive conference, Sue voted to go to the pub and Todd voted to go to the pub - we went off to the pub (the Kings Arms). We sat and chatted and read and listened to the only other people in the place design a new house with lots of plastic in it. It was getting late and the paths were winding and treacherous so Sue quoted a famous movie by saying, "The sky is beginning to bruise, night must fall and we shall be forced to camp." Todd pulled out the head lamp and we dashed up the road and promptly cuaght the bus back to Grange.

Another quiet night at home reading and listening to Radio 4.
