Europe - Trip 1

Day 12 - January 19, 2002

Some of the Brough v. Bolton footie

Not much done this morning - all of us (Sarah too) got up late and hung around the house. Todd pulled out his travel robe and stayed in it most of the day. Sarah fixed us a nice brunch of standard English breakfast stuff (eggs, bacon, sausages that we brought from Grange, toast and tea). Sue and Sarah chatted at length catching up on the past year - Todd retired to the office to finish typing up the first 11 days of the trip...

Sue and Todd at
Middlesbrough Stadium

After all the abject laziness we decided to go to a stadium and sit around watching the Middlesbrough and Bolton footie - Sarah's treat. It was pretty cool seeing a premier league game will all the noise and action and stuff. Admittedly both teams are not the best - Bolton is 2 positions away from being dropped from the premier league and Middlesbrough is 1 of 3 slated for the drop. All in all the experience was pretty cool - the away section (Bolton) made more noise than the locals even though they were outnumbered 30 to 1. The people in our section were not pleased with the draw that emerged. We think though that the ticket lady put in the section with lots of the ladies cuz we're tourists.

'Twas dark after we left the footie and so we headed to Yarm for a bite. Took us 15 minutes to pick a place to go after poking our heads into about 10 pubs. Settled for Indian food - very tasty. Even had beef Sag Gosht.

Finished the night at the cinema seeing Black Hawk Down. New Ridley Scott flick with excellent camera work and good emotional yanking - all in all a good flick.

windy and cold mostly without rain
