Europe - Trip 3

Day 4 - January 29, 2002

Sue looking like a pro

This morning was nice and warm and we grabbed a quick breakfast from the building kitchen and went off to catch the bus – a standard 4 per row thing with only 10 people on it. The countryside along the way was spectacular as went winded along the coast and then through the mountains of the Dingle peninsula. (We thought later that spending 2 nights in Cork was not as amenable as 2 days out here would have been).

light house on Dingle bay

We got into Dingle and wandered up the hill and rented a couple of bikes from Foxy John’s pub, hardware store and bike hire and proceeded to bike round Dingle bay. Truly we spent most of the afternoon looking around and taking pictures of the shore and the sites round the town and the bay. Remembering a bullshit corner recommendation we had a short stop at Dick Mac’s (pub and rubber boot shop) for a pint before the bus had us in great company as such luminaries as Tom Cruise (Sue and Todd's fave actor of course) had had a few there whilst filming a flick.

and more wave and rocks

The bus ride back was uneventful except again for the hills and vistas. A short stop at the hotel to drop off our stuff and we headed back to Abbey bar for dinner again. We got a warm welcome from the gang at the end of the bar and proceeded to while away another evening in the company of some pretty nice people. They share their huge shared plate of deep fried bits with us, proceeded to full us in on how it all worked and regulary entertained us with quotes from Fargo, “This is my deal!” while we watched the Liverpool and Man U footie. All told another fab night.

The weather in Dingle was really nice - sunny with sunny bits in between
